Description

The upgraded Leipzig - Dresden line is Germany's first long-distance railway line (operation started in 1839). As part of the 1992 Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan, it is being upgraded for high-speed traffic as part of the German Unity Transport Projects. The targeted reduction in journey time is achieved by constructing new sections and straightening curves.
sections.

The double-track line Leipzig - Dresden is approx. 120 km long. The section of line worked on by GRE stretches from the Elbe bridge in Riesa to the Dresden railway junction in Radebeul. As part of the construction work, numerous level crossings with other traffic routes were eliminated, platforms were relocated from the continuous main tracks to the passing tracks and modern safety and telecommunications technology was installed. The engineering structures (bridges and tunnels) were renovated or renewed. Some of the tracks were laid on new sections. Extensive noise protection measures were implemented along the line.

After completion of the construction measures, the travel time between Leipzig and Dresden was reduced to 45 minutes by increasing the speed of the line to 200 km/h. The new railway line is now equipped with a new railway line.

  • Route length: 120 km
  • Bridge structures: 63, of which 36 existing structures and 27 new constructions
  • Laying and securing of roads and paths as well as cables and lines
  • Construction of electronic signal boxes (ESTW)
